positive
feedback from:
freizeit publishers
After
reading about the difficult time one PMA publisher member had
with a well-known printer, I felt compelled to relay a success
story. Certainly there are some out there. This is one. When we
were ready to publish the third edition of The Beer Drinker's
Guide to Munich earlier this year, we were in need of a new
printer. Working from Hawaii, the chances of finding a competitive
firm locally are almost nil. Forced to rely on the mail and air
courier services to handle most dealings leading to a print run,
the world literally became our oyster with regard to our selection
of a printer.
We
found plenty to choose from and great variations in price and
level of service. We researched at least a dozen firms across
the US. Ultimately, we settled on Data Reproduction Corporation.
They had one of the lowest prices (not the lowest, but close to
it) and a good offering of service. Boy, are we glad we did. Working
with Gabe Watts, Tim Wertheimer and the folks at Data Repro was
a true pleasure. They're responsive, professional, and produce
a high-quality product. When there was a problem detected on the
blueline, when a drop shadow was too light, rather than argue
about whether it was a printer's or publisher's mistake, Tim just
fixed it and we got on with printing the book.
These
folks are honest, efficient, and every cost that was estimated
was what, in fact, was charged. No additional add-ons for every
little correction or additional blueline proof that had to be
produced. I had the feeling that the people there were as interested
in producing a top-quality book as we were. And the final product
sustained my hunch. The book came out beautiful - trimmed properly,
aligned well and centered, and a great looking cover (first time
we had gone to four colors and Data Repro printed it perfectly).
We had a tricky four-color map of the Munich transportation system
that had to be enlarged slightly and reproduced on the back inside
cover. They handled it all without a hitch, and at a very reasonable
slight additional cost.
When
the job was done, they returned the original artwork promptly
and drop-shipped the books in stong, manageable cartons (40 per
instead of the 80 of the last printing) to destinations of my
choice. Even the freight was handled well. As for the returning
of the negatives, I was more than happy to leave them with Data
Repro. As far as I'm concerned, they're my printer now. I'd rather
have my negatives there than gathering dust in our office.
Finally,
thank you PMA for running their ad in the newletter a while back.
That's how we found them in the first place. There are some good
printers out there and Data Reproductions Corporation is one of
them. Besides, I sent them all a case of premium brew because
people like that have got to be beer drinkers!
